defining your niche 101

Post by erospeterson » Fri Jun 17, 2011 11:41 am

My question to the community is "how niche is your niche market?" Or better yet, "how narrow do you define the products you list in your store?"

I have some ideas as to where I would like to go with the stores I have planned in mind but I'm trying to narrow down the scope , it's so darn easy to get overwhelmed.

Thoughts appreciated as always...

Try entering your keywords into Google. If you get something like 13 million sites, the niche is saturated (over-saturated, probably). Finding a niche that might be under a million obviously means a lot less competition. But don't go so far the other way that you set up a site with a keyword that only has a dozen entries. Chances are nobody is looking for it.

Finding that magic number is what the game is all about. There are other important factors as well, but this would be a good place to start.
