You might want to reconsider the Free Domain for Life, and register the domain elsewhere. It's only free if you stay with this particular host for life. If you do change hosts in the future, it avoids problems that ensue during a host change. It would be easier to register the domain elsewhere, and avoid problems like this!

What is so hard about transferring a domain? Who would think that the free domain for life would travel with them wherever they go.

Obviously you are well versed in this subject area of conversation, so lets consider that the advice was given for the uninformed (newcomer) site and domain owner only.

As you know the horror stories of lost and expired domains from some hosts with domain involvement are numerous during a changeover. These problems usually occur because some hosts will subcontract the domain registration, and the domain status information is not advanced properly.
