Is anyone making money?

Post by mcolburn » Wed Aug 17, 2011 7:09 pm

I've dabbled with Amazon Affiliate sites on and off, but haven't made anything really. However, I haven't used a nice script like this before.

Is anyone making any money? Anything to speak of that is? What do I need to consider about driving traffic (I don't need a lesson in SEO, I understand that), but what basic things do you do to drive traffic to your site?

It looks like most people have multiple sites, what's the magic number there?

What advice do you have for a newbie with AOM?

Thanks,

Mike

To answer your question,Yes, I make my living working from home using AOM and other services like http://www.awin1.com/awclick.php?mid=3&id=125904 Affiliate Window and http://www.icodes.co.uk/ to add content and extra income streams.

Philip

Well I tested out AOM with some old domain I had lying around and used the free AOM version to see if after a year it could have bought itself. All I did was submit the site map to search engines, Tried to make the site look somewhat professional, and relied on the auto generation of products to keep it fresh with the search engines.

Pewter.us for the month At 352 visits the site made $1.88, and this was one of the best months.

Personally that shows me that there is a small spark their but not enough of one to risk it for $100 on software that the free trial version can not even generate enough to purchase its own renewal fees..after the $100 purchase fee.

Hope this helps..I don't know if they will take it down or not..It might be a trade secret..IDK..

Regards,
Jeff

I started about 3 months ago, with some domains already active for some time and new ones.

Below is the list:

http://www.cyberspazio.co (old domain - page rank 2)
http://www.fotolibri.it (old domain - page rank 1) (AOM: http://www.fotolibri.it/books/)
http://www.informalibri.it (old domain - page rank 1)
http://www.informaticalibri.it (old domain - page rank 1) (AOM: http://www.informaticalibri.it/books-uk/)
http://www.visualbooks.it (old domain - page rank 1)
http://www.anticoegitto.it (new domain - page rank 1)
http://www.arredocasagiardino.it (new domain - page rank 0) (NO AOM)
http://www.photomemorycard.com (new domain - page rank 0)
http://www.telefoninicellulari.eu (new domain - page rank 0)
http://www.audiophotovideo.com (new domain - page rank 2)
http://www.fotovideoshop.it (new domain - page rank 2)
http://www.photovideoshop.net (new domain - page rank 1)
http://www.movieshop.it (new domain - page rank 1)
http://www.videomovieshop.net (new domain - page rank 0)
http://www.choirboys.eu (new domain - page rank 0)

In this time (about 3 months of activity) have earned amazon.co.uk (5-6%) and amazon.it (10%) approximately 1.500,00 Euro

I'm waiting for AOM amazon.it for use AOM of amazon.it

Are just beginning, and August is not the best month for sales.

(Sorry if my English is not perfect!)

My answer DAMN STRAIGHT! I make plenty cash these days with AOM.

The sites I see asking for reviews here are nice, but hardly any of the sites reflect a good knowledge of SEO and site structuring for first page ranking. The biggest problem I'm seeing is that people aren't picking small tight niches. Would you rather be a small fish in a big pond or a big fish in a little one? Or I guess I should say would you like to have a big store where there are millions of competitors or a series of small niche stores, each of which has few competitors?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. You have to do all your market research and keyword research before you upload AOM. You have to plan the structure of the supporting pages outside of AOM. That's when you money is made. Before you buy your domain and upload AOM. Anything less is a crap shoot.

You can't just say, Hey, I think I'll put up a site about shoes, do that, and then scratch your head about why you aren't making any money. If you don't know how to DO that research, ask someone for help.

Mall stores are competing with Sears, Target, Walmart, Penneys, and even AMAZON itself. Do you have the kind of money they have for promoting your site like they do? No? Then you had darn sure level the playing field by good, tight, accurate keyword research and SEO, and lots and lots of backlinks.

I had been making a modest income for years, with occasional bursts at the holidays. The new changes have really put a damper on things, reducing the site size, and throwing the "requests exceeded" error way too often. I'm working on resolving that, but for the moment I'm not making much at all.

Enjoyed seeing everyone's success stories. I'm still building, so it's nice to see that this is working for some of you. :)

What changes are you referring to when you say they are putting a damper on things? I run a few sites on a number of different topics and am evaluating Associate-o-matic for a niche ecommerce store. Any and all feedback with your issues would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Not yet. While I've purchased AOM earlier this year (Jan / Feb?) I've kinda just got started working with it in the beginning of this month.

To be specific, just completed 2 sites. None ranking yet as far as my Statcounter's saying. Perhaps gotta wait at least 2 weeks to see any results? :)
