Category ID & SubCategory ID accept Hyphen & Underscore

Post by ThanksGod » Sun Aug 12, 2012 5:57 pm

Is it possible to have my wish below added to the next update?

In current version, we can't use Hyphen (-) & Underscore (_) in Category ID & SubCategory ID.

Is it possible to make Category ID & SubCategory ID to accept Hyphen (-) & Underscore (_)?

Thanks AOM....

In the upcoming v5.4.0, you can use underscores and hyphens in category and subcategory IDs under the following circumstances...

1. When Mod Rewrite = Off both underscores and hyphens can be used in IDs.

2. When Mod Rewrite = On and URL Separator is set to hyphen... underscores can be used in IDs.

3. When Mod Rewrite = On and URL Separator is set to underscore... hyphens can be used in IDs.

For years now, I've simply made my own separator by using the "0". This will help those who were wanting a separator.
For instance: Toys0Ben or Books0Ben, etc.

I try on latest version 5.4.0 but category ID still not accept either hyphen and underscore. It's not working on both. I am using #ruleset 5. I tried without hyphen or underscore and it's working.

Do I miss something?
Please advise...

Try updating your rules with the ones shown under the 'SEO' tab of your AOM control panel.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply.

I am working on new domain and using the latest version of AOM 5.4.0 (freshly installed / not an upgrade).

I set the ruleset on SEO tab and I use ruleset 5.

#ruleset 5 is ruleset that use underscore as URL Separator, that means I can use hyphens on Category ID. I tried but is not working.

Then I tried use underscore on category ID, then I got this error: "A Category ID (leather_shoes) contains an invalid character. Only A-Z, a-z and 0-9 and hyphens are allowed. No spaces or punctuation". That means I have to use hyphens that I did try before but not working.

Then I changed my ruleset to #ruleset 1 and tried again, but none of them working.

Can you please help me for this?
Is it working on your site?
Is it a bug that need to be fix by admin?

Please advise...

Many thanks...

We have updated the mod_rewrite rules to allow for the hyphen (if the url separator is underscore) and underscore (if the url separator is hyphen).

The updated rule sets are towards the bottom of this page:

Please confirm that things are working for you.

Thanks
