Better Brand Control in Categories

Post by Comfort » Fri Mar 16, 2012 2:10 am

I have been looking for ways to have better control over the display of certain brands in a category.

Until recently the only partly successful solution is to use the node option and place a positive keyword for the brand you want... then place negative keywords to remove any items from other brands that show up.

I thought I had found a solution but it has one problem that I can't overcome.

My solution is to create a bunch of node based categories for each node I want to target. I then untick all display options so those categories are not displayed anywhere at all. I then create matching categories using the URL option that references each of the previous categories but displays only the brand..

Example would be to create this category..

CirculonSkillets

<Mode>Kitchen</Mode>

Skillets

<Node>289829</Node>
<SDK>Off</SDK>
<Keyword>%20</Keyword>
<Con>N</Con>
<Tab>Off</Tab>
<Menu>Off</Menu>
<Box>Off</Box>
Off
<Sort>pmrank</Sort>

then reference it in another category that is display options are set and we filter only items of the Circulon Brand.

4880

<Mode>URL</Mode>

Circulon Skillets

<Node>none</Node>
<SDK>Off</SDK>
<Keyword>http://circuloncookware.test.com/Circul ... Brand-sr-1</Keyword>
<Con>N</Con>
<Tab>Off</Tab>
<Menu>Off</Menu>
<Box>On</Box>
On

It works... however the way the breadcrumbs work the original category is referenced which is not what we want.

Since this can be done through the solution above I believe and hope that AOM can get this to work officially.

Thanks for posting the details. Good news, we now have a built in way for you to fine-tune categories. It is a new setting called "Category Type". For each AOM category you can optionally select from the following choices to fine tune that category...

Actor
Artist
Author
Brand
Creator
Director
Manufacturer
Music Label
Publisher
Title

Not all options are allowed with all Amazon category types. For example Music Label would only be allowed with the Amazon category Music, etc.

Also, when you create your AOM category, the keyword would be the associated value. So if you wanted to focus on the Brand "Circulon", you would enter that has the AOM category keyword.

This feature is coming soon in v5.3.0 (next few days).

Let me know if you have questions.

Justin
