Some of my sites are being hit with this, others aren't.

If it keeps happening I'll have to look for another affiliate program that gives a datafeed

This has killed the Amazon program for me.

I've been doing this a long time and have hundreds of sites.

During the Holidays, my traffic really increases and having those ugly account limits show up is not going to work. I'm only showing eBay now on the sites I'm promoting for the Holidays and will no longer add Amazon to my sites.

It's their loss since all my sites come up higher than their listings in the search engines and it's not because of their content.

Adding that Api limit right before the Holidays was not very smart on their part and yes, I've used that link to email them and have heard nothing back.

Edit: Just heard back from them and they said feel free to close your account. The Amazon api is dead. Seems as if they don't want publishers anymore.

this is madness, I think amazon will lose some affiliates. I am going to find some good affiliate programs.

wow, I just saw this. I will have to rethink my who affiliate strategy. That seems an incredibly low rate right before the holidays.

What bots are people trying to exclude? Anyone has anything that helps with this? Just wondering what I can do in my robots file if anything.

Mike (mcarp555) has an excellent tutorial in the AOM Talk blog on how to combat these nasty bots that chew up valuable resources.

Build Your Own Bot Trap

Let us know how it goes.

Would it be possible that if a site is exceeded, the program would display a banner or something that says something to the effect that the site is temporarily busy and a link to Amazon with the affiliate ID, preferably where we could define where the link goes to i.e. phones etc.. At least that way folks may recover a sale or two when their sites get hammered with the requests exceeded.

We will look to add a setting (probably in the Error section) where you'll be able to output custom HTML when this Amazon error occurs.

My site is very holiday & Seasonal niched... and i have great traffic because of previous use of my domain name for the same thing for several years now... so its established... Hopefully the sales will continue into the winter, spring, summer & Fall.

Im hoping to create network of sites that are specific niches in all different categories in hopes to continue good sales all year long. f I can pay my small warehouse rent ($3,600) a month with just commission checks from amazon... everything else we do (Screen Printing & Embroidery) will have more of a profit margin with less overhead which means i can make it harder for people in my area to compete with me in pricing. :)
