Google AdSense and Amazon stores

Post by Fireworkszone » Mon Sep 06, 2010 10:22 am

Hi,

I am speaking from my experience. Google AdSense ad server has been disabled on my website from 23rd July (http://www.fireworkszone.com) because I placed adsense ads on my Amazon stores and that Amazon stores sell adult items which violate Google policy.

Here is the email I received from Google Adsense:

While reviewing your account, we noticed that you are currently displaying
Google ads in a manner that is not compliant with our policies. For
instance, we found violations of AdSense policies on pages such as
http://www.fireworkszone.com/amazon.us/ ... -toys.html.
Please note that this URL is an example and that the same violations may
exist on other pages of your website.

As stated in our program policies, AdSense publishers are not permitted to
place Google ads on pages with adult or mature content. This includes any
content that is sexual in intent or may not be considered family-safe.

As a result, we have disabled ad serving to the site.

You only have to watch out with adult or mature content, if you have a 'normal' niche webstore you can't get into trouble.

We make a lot of money with both Amazon and Adsense on all our stores.

How many Amazon stores do you have?

I have a niche site/shop and my keyword is not usually considered adult themed unless it's super bad press. even so, i've found users come to the site searching for keywords that have nothing to do with the niche keyword. so either google.com started indexing pages before I figured out that niche thing too well, or there's still a chance non-related items could be found via some link in the default AOM setup.

i haven't put in adsense yet, but now I'm concerned. I realize the chances are small, but half a chance is worse than none. i'm purely whitehat.

I can not tell you the exact numbers (don't want to take risk with the amazon terms) but easily more than a hundredth and they are doing more than 5 figures a month.

We developed a system for it and we are now launching at least 1 - 2 new niche stores per day and we are currently hard at work on expending this BU so we can launch more stores per day. AOM is a gold mine!!

@brad, you have to put Adsense on your stores. We own quite a lot of stores where the Adsense earnings are outperforming the Amazon earnings. When we select a niche to build a store for we also check the Adsense CPC, if the CPC is too low we don't build the store.

Your system is very interesting.

Are you looking for a partner for Amazon.fr and Amazon.de for example?

You can contact me off forum: support@fireworkszone.com

Thanks for the partner offer but we have everything pretty well covered.

However, I'm going to send you an 'introduction' email tonight. It's always good to network;).

In a couple of weeks/months we're releasing a course around AOM, our system and how you can take your earnings to the next level. We are in the final stages but the exact launch date isn't set yet, especially after the mail of this morning.

To get back on topic; Filter out the adult content and always place Adsense on your site! On quite a few sites of ours the Adsense outperforms the Amazon earnings.

You can send me an 'introduction' email as well to site.admin00@gmail.com

I've been using AOM for a few years now and would love to network or cooperate with someone that uses AOM like me :)

@Fireworkszone

Google did the same thing to me a few days ago. I was featuring things from the sexual health node in the health and personal care node from amazon. I should have explored that node a little further, though because there's lot of adult toys in that node too!

The problem is that if "questionable" content is buried 3-4 levels deep into a node, it makes it difficult to explore all nodes before putting them online. I wonder if there is an XXX filter in the API ? Probably not.

I'm guessing that it might be better, in some cases, to remove the displaying of subcategories, and just showcase things based upon keyword ... the keyword which matches the content of the rest of the site / blog where AOM is just one part.

I think AOM just displays the first 4000 ( ... 10 items per page with 400 pages max ... ) items in any given node in any case ... so, even if a node says that it contains 15,000 items, only the first 4,000 will show up. With that in mind, it seems like that the API is engineered toward item exclusion.

Sorry I rambled.

I had the same problem, I did not realize that some visitors were searching for sex toys and that such items were available from third party suppliers.

I'm not that keen on sending out my domains but if you send me your site's email address (not gmail or something), I'll send you one so you can look at it and check the search engine rankings.

You will see that it's a 'high quality' store and that it ranks number one or two in google.com. And btw, it's not a garbage 4 - 5 word long-tail-keyword but a top level keyword and of course do the look-up without brackets. ;)

And to get back to your initial question, I don't build the stores myself anymore, but I have one employee building the stores and the other does the online marketing. These two FT employees build around 50 stores per month and everything goes automatically with this. September 13th I had another team starting with 2 new employees and hopefully we have a thirth team starting on october 1st. Basicly we then hope to build at least 150 AOM stores per month, and we're still tweaking the system bit-by-bit but we're pretty excited about it.

I can't say it enough, AOM rocks!! And especially when you leverage your work with outsourcing.
