UK DVD and VHS Ratings Error

Post by professorgl » Mon May 12, 2008 7:13 am

Hi,

Brand new here... I am testing the software, and I have it setup for US, UK, CA. Version 4.1.1.

I keep getting the following text in the body section of my UK site when I click on DVD or VHS categories:

Your request contained a restricted parameter combination. When SearchIndex equals VHS, AudienceRating cannot be present.

I did receive that same text with the CA store, but I was able to uncheck the movie rating in the admin filter. However, there are no options to do that in the UK admin filter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Warm Regards,
ProfessorGL

Let's talk about version control.

As it is now an administrator of an AOM site can log in to the admin interface to see which version of AOM is installed on a particular site.

If, as has happened in the past, the zip file containing AOM for download is replaced with a different zip file containing a recompiled version of AOM to fix some bug(s), then the version of AOM as displayed in the admin interface should indicate this in some way.

Failure to do this sets up the potential for confusion.

It's not a big deal if it says 4.1.1a or 4.1.2, or whatever it says, as long as each unique build of the product contains a unique identifier visible to the administrator.

As the user base continues to grow the advantages of strictly adhering to good version control practices will become more apparent.

I'm sure Justin would agree; in the past when versions have been fixed for various reasons, it's almost always been done within a few hours of initial release, when the number of people affected is smallest. This hasn't required any sort of version number change, and I don't see any real reason to change this.

I believe that your use of the phrase "almost always" is correct. This suggests that people using the program can almost always tell which version they have. It is clear to me that this leaves open an opportunity for improvement.

"Almost always" as in when a fix is not forthcoming within hours, the corrected version is assigned a new version number. This has been the case as long as I've been using AOM. I don't understand why you feel this is inadequate. Have you been affected by downloading a version that was replaced the same day (the day of release), and not notified by a post in the forum or other means?

I guess that does satisfy my wishes, Mike. I have not been affected by such an issue, no. My message was based on the expectation that a new build was imminent, based on the issue in this thread and the one I reported in another thread about problems including AOM.

Justin and I have been in touch regarding fixes for the various things that have popped up (including the one at the beginning of this thread), and we've been calling it "4.1.2". He of course has the final say, but I would expect that will be the case. I can only think of once or twice in the past year when an upgrade has needed replacing the day of release, so it's not a common occurrence. It's more a case of "Whoops, forgot to put the hubcaps on!" than anything else.

BTW, I mentioned the 'include' problem to him as well, so he's aware of that also.

Hello,

DVDs and Video are not active on US website as well. It says "The value you specified for AudienceRating is invalid. Valid values include G, NC-17, NR, PG, PG-13, R, Unrated."

Have you tried unchecking a rating, checking it again, then saving from that page (Filters)?

Hello,

But I do not see any check boxes in the UK version? I was able to do that in the US version.

Thanks,
Professorgl

Correct. There are no boxes in the UK version, since the ratings do not apply. You'll have to wait for the update.
