Amazon Checkout Opens Inside AOM Store

Post by Sonnie » Sat Feb 06, 2010 5:20 am

Does anyone have the Amazon checkout process opening inside their AOM store pages?

I'm not entirely sure but if you were to frame up the checkout process within your own site, this would be against Amazon's TOS. And if that's true, it would be unwise to upset the most successful affiliate program in history.

That is what I was afraid of... it being against their TOS.

Are you specifically referring to these parts:
In addition, you may not:

(c) in any way modify, redirect, suppress, or substitute the operation of any button, link, or other interactive feature of the Amazon Site;

(f) other than providing Special Links on your site in accordance with this Agreement, post or serve any advertisements or promotional content promoting the Amazon Site or otherwise around or in conjunction with the display of the Amazon Site (e.g., through any "framing" technique or technology or pop-up or pop-under windows), or assist, authorize, or encourage any third party to take any such action;
We are not going to modify, redirect or suppress any of their pages. And we are not altering any of their buttons or links. We are altering our own links to open within our site.

We would not be serving any advertising or promotional content.

Maybe I should ask them directly to be sure I clarify it.

You can ask them or also post to the associate message board as well. I seem to recall seeing framing in any way of any Amazon page was severely frowned upon somewhere.

Sonnie I assume you mean https pages, if you look at any Amazon WebStore you will see that these are similar to the AOM checkout page (We've Teamed with Amazon). The only difference being their store logo, this is a https page served by Amazon strictly not served by the stores host. Amazon does not want you to mess with their https pages, it would be nice to tweak the page with your logo etc., but they have not offered it with the API as of yet. Only in the Amazon WebStore, which I'm sure increases the conversion rate somewhat. Actually it doesn't need a frame, you could create a page, but it is a violation of the agreement. They want to strictly control the info on these https checkout pages.

Yeah... when a customer clicks the CHECKOUT AT amazon.com button: Image it then loads to an https page: We have teamed with Amazon.com ... I am a new customer or I am an existing customer.

They should make it where the customer stays within our AOM store. Once they go to Amazon, they are gone... there is no "Return to (yourstore)". They should either allow frames or after checkout from an AOM store have them redirected back to our stores or at least offer them the same.

Carl:
The comparison was used because the WebStore which also can use the API can't change the https page either, other than their logo. The bottom line is Amazon won't let their own product be changed let alone AOM. The addition of your logo and a link back to your store on the AOM https checkout page would in itself increase conversions, they just plain don't want you messing with it, more than likely for security reasons.

The Associates Program Participation Requirements states:
22. You will not frame the Amazon Site, or any part of it, within your site. However, displaying a Special Link on your site in accordance with the Operating Agreement will not be considered framing the Amazon Site.
A link to the Participation Requirements can be found under section 4 of the Associates Program Operating Agreement.

So how can putting in customer reviews in an iframe not be a violation of this?

There's nothing in there that says Amazon can't do it, but you or I can't.

It was like that in the previous AOM version. Since Amazon has changed it TOS, the checkout redirects to Amazon page. I don't mind though because at least the customers know that the check out is handled securely by Amazon.
